My fishing partner today rode a motorcycle all the way from Canton, Mo. to fish in Rockport, Texas. We started early looking for speckled trout using live shrimp and instead caught two dozen ladyfish (skipjack). We saved most of them for redfish bait to be used later in the day. about 10:00 AM the tide started to rise and the redfish started to feed. The cut skipjack was the candy the redfish could not resist. After catching a few redfish (6, released 3), we went after speckled trout again. This time the trout cooperated and we fished with 5 specks, 3 reds, and a bonus “nice” flounder. A Coastal Texas Slam. Great fishing and great eating.
