We had a chance to get out to the gulf and fish for snapper and catch some Red Snapper in state waters. The rocks we fished are north of Port Aransas about 30 miles in 70 feet of water. the ride in my 26 Ft. Shallow Sport X – 3 with the 300 HP Yamaha 4 stroke took about an 45 minutes. When we arrived we marked bait and fish from the bottom to about 40 feet below the boat. As we drifted over the rocks using live mullet for bait we caught several nice red snapper of about 4 lbs. as we reeled or bait up after we drifted off the structure one fisherman had a hard strike and said he thought he had a shark. the shark turned out to be a 23 LB. Red Snapper. After that we fished a little shallower over the structure and ended up with several large red Snapper. The trip was fun and the fish was great that evening at Rockport’s Paradise Key Restaurant. They do a great job cooking your fish; try them sometime.
