The saltwater bay fishing around Rockport and Port Aransas, Texas is on fire right now. The golden croakers and available and both speckled trout and redfish are getting bigger. The big female speckled trout have moved into the saltwater bays and are feeding up preparing to spawn. Now is the time to catch a trophy speckled trout.

The redfish were aggressive today in the bays around Rockport and Port Aransas, Texas. Saltwater fishing continues to improve as the bay water warms. Bait fish including Mullet, menhaden, and golden croaker are filling the bays and the speckled trout and redfish are getting fat. Speckled trout are preparing to spawn and the big females over 25″ are in the bays. Come to south Texas and catch one.

The saltwater fishing was great in the bays around Rockport and Port Aransas, Texas. The fisherman caught a mixed bag of speckled trout and redfish. They had plenty of fish to take home and had a fresh fish dinner at Paradise Key at Cove Harbor, our favorite local restaurant.

My fishing partner today rode a motorcycle all the way from Canton, Mo. to fish in Rockport, Texas. We started early looking for speckled trout using live shrimp and instead caught two dozen ladyfish (skipjack). We saved most of them for redfish bait to be used later in the day. about 10:00 AM the tide started to rise and the redfish started to feed. The cut skipjack was the candy the redfish could not resist. After catching a few redfish (6, released 3), we went after speckled trout again. This time the trout cooperated and we fished with 5 specks, 3 reds, and a bonus “nice” flounder. A Coastal Texas Slam. Great fishing and great eating.

I had some fisherpersons visit from Ohio to fish a couple of days. Since two couples are Amish, the brought their driver along. The traveled from Ohio to Dallas by Amtrak, then rented a van and drove to Rockport. The redfish really cooperated and everyone caught plenty of big redfish. many were 27 + inches and over 9 lbs. All tournament wining fish. They also enjoyed the fresh fish fillets prepared by our local Rockport restaurants. Come to Rockport and Port Aransas and have a great day on the bay. (The Amish guest are not permitted to be photographed – their driver is shown).
